James Soyemi Shall We Dance? 0831 Section 001 Colleen Hooper Take home Sheet Assignment #1 Title : The Gay Divorcee Year : 1934 Director : Mark Sandrich Choreographer : Betty Grable Main Stars : Fred Astaire (Guy Holden), Ginger Rogers (Mimi Glossop), Alice Brady (Aunt Hortense), Edward Everett Horton (Egbert Fitzgerald) Guy meets an American woman at the airport and he is interested in her. She is going to mail him is jacket, that he let her hold for ripping her dress. Guy is determined to find the girl who he met at the airport out of all the women in London; he demonstrated this in the “Needle in a haystack” dance scene. Guy eventually found Mimi and she tries to drive away from him, but he catches up to her and uses her economical tactic as a way of giving her his number. Mimi’s Aunt knew Mr. Fitzgerald from the past. Mimi wants a divorce from her husband, and she needed a divorce lawyer. In order for the divorce to go through, Mr. Fitzgerald plans a hotel getaway so that Mimi can stage an affair with a hired agent. During
