Unformatted text preview: DOC Lecture Notes 11/22/10 What does it mean by third world solidarity and how does it relate to third world feminism?- Cold War- Third-world = underdeveloped countries, non-aligned countries- Solidarity = those communities whose origins were in 3 rd world (even tho they lived in 1 st world like AA, Hispanics, etc) they said they are in solidarity with countries that are struggling to get economic development/ colonialism- Related to third world feminism b/c it relates to women coming from third- worlds; working class women feminism- Relates to MLKs idea of WH b/c 1 st world countries help 3 rd world countries develop Neoliberalism/privatization- approach to capitalism which says there should be limited govt intervention; wealthiest sector trickle down effect- there should be limited social safety net- every indivs responsibility to take care of oneself- finance; if stock market is doing well, everyone eventually will do well- rather than have taxes go to these programs, private corps, people individually should may for it- privatization = primary mechanism thru which neoliberalist policies are instituted (1960s when UCSD opened, it costed almost nothing to attend...
