I would side with the Melians because I feel that they were wise in refusing to be ruled by the Athenians. Although they knew that the Athenians held more power, they were also aware that the benefits that the Melians were to receive were not supposed to be that beneficial to them. If the Melians actually fell for all of the Athenians words, the Athenians would benefit more, of course, since they are the ones who want to dictate. The Melians choose not to be associated with the Athenians even after all the plausible reasons the Athenians gave them to be under their rule. They prefer fair play and justice, so they take on a more neutral role. They are confident in themselves and believe that there is a chance that they could resist the Athenians conquers. This shows the Melians strength because in the end, it is obvious that the Athenians conquers....
