Ng 1 Sharon Ng Professor Skrentny, TA Megan Strom DOC 2 – C06 08 February 2011 Mock Debate: Brown v. Board of Education Majority: Warren argues that segregation is bad because it produces bad effects. It violates the 14 th Amendment. Intangible issues foster inequality. Racial segregation is bad for minority children because they are ostracized for their inferiority. “Separate but equal” is not equal because Black children were being denied of equal educational resources as the white people. *In Brown v. Board, there was no actual dissent because everyone voted for it. It was unanimous. However, Brown v. Board overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson case. This case was an essential precursor to the Brown v. Board of Education case. Argument: In Plessy v. Ferguson, Homer Plessy got in trouble with Jim Crow laws because he hated segregation laws and wanted to challenge it. The law proposed was that Blacks and Whites were to have separate but equal accommodations. The main argument in this court case was that
