Sharon Ng ICS 9 7/27/11 Ch. 10 Short Answers Extra Credit Ch10 Short Answers 1. What role has the U.S. movie industry played in the circulation of Asian American stereotypes? The U.S. movie industry has often portrayed Asians as devious, corrupt, and evil. These racist images caused anti-Asian sentiment among the population. As a result, Asians had a hard time assimilating, not only because of their devious nature, but also because many could not speak fluent English. 2. What are the negative consequences of the “model minority” stereotype? The model minority had negative consequences because it basically deemed Asian Americans as the best of all the minorities, but still not at the top because it’s more like what other minorities need to model after. People saw Asians as the perfect minority, so this led to the lack of services to many Asian Americans because people assumed they did not need help when they actually would.
