Exploration: Warm Tile, Cold Tile June 29, 2009 Questions 1) The aluminum black tile feels colder because it has less average transitional energy.  However, both substances actually have the same temperature. 2) Heat is the transfer of energy; temperature is the average kinetic energy. 3) Aluminum black marble conducts heat more efficiently because it takes in heat into the  ice, making it melt almost instantly. 4) The plastic has a greater resistance to a change in its temperature. 5) A material with a cube of ice melts faster when it has low specific heat because it absorbs  heat from surroundings to stay cool. Exploration: Dark Objects vs. Light Objects June 29, 2009 Questions 1) Initially, the black one cooled quicker, but the white one consistently cooled over time. 2) Dark objects radiate energy quicker than lighter objects. 3) An experiment that could relate to this statement is wearing black in the summer, and  observing the effects of that versus wearing white. 4) The black can is warmed up the quickest.
