Optics July 20, 2009 Exploration: The Disappearing Beaker Question 1) This beaker, with no markings, bends light the same as Wesson Vegetable Oil. The glass  and the oil have the same index of refraction. When the beaker is immersed into a  container of this oil, the beaker becomes invisible. Exploration: Optical Mirage Question 1) When a small object is placed at the bottom and in the middle of the apparatus, the small  object looks like it’s on top of the covered disk, when in reality it is inside. It also looks  flipped. Exploration: Pinhole Viewer/Pinhole Lens/Inverted Shadows Questions 1) The direction of the shadow appears upside down, and right side up. 2) The shadowy image of the pin appears upside down while the pin itself appears right side  up because it is being reflected. 3)
