Megan Carter 1- What did you learn in this class that was new to you either by way of skills and/or content? A lot of what we covered in this class was new, but the thing that was the most different to what I had been learning so far was probably the honeysuckle project with Dr. Medley. I didn’t know that honeysuckle wasn’t native let alone just how invasive and destructive it is. Because I grew up with honeysuckle I thought it was native, which is probably not a good way to think about it but I didn’t have nay reason to think otherwise. So when I found out that honeysuckle is not native to Ohio, and that all those tiny trees and bushes I always see in the woods are actually the same thing (honeysuckle) it made me realize why someone would want to study a single plant. I found myself fascinated when we related height of trees and types of soils to size and quantity of honeysuckle in Peffer Park, and at the fact that honeysuckle is so immune to ways we normally get rid of such problems.
