Megan Carter GEO 221 – Regional Physical Environment Dr. Jerry Green Aug 30, 2010 Oxford Postcard In 1860 Charles Barrows painted a scene titled Four Mile Creek and Bonham Road, Oxford, Ohio . In 1981 Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bourne donated the oil painting to the Miami University Art Museum, which was then made into a post card. The painting on this postcard took place during several different international, national, and even Ohio state historic events. In 1860 the Lebanon conflict was taking place between Maronite peasants and the Druze overlords (1860 Lebanon conflict). Another piece of violent internetional history of the time was the Taiping Rebellion. This was an extensive civil war in southern China from 1850-1864 led by Hong Xiuquan against the ruling Qing Dynasty. It is known as one of the deadliest conflicts, with about 20 million people died, most of which were civilians. (Taiping Rebellion) In the United States the Pony Express began its first run April 3 rd, 1860 and was completed in eleven days. Abraham Lincoln and John Bell ran for president and won, leading to South Carolina becoming the first state to secede from the Union. (1860). The Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865 (Queensland Government). In Ohio a meteorite fell in Muskingum County (1860). Also, the first train hold up took
