ZAPPOS.COM 1. What lessons about leading people and managing organizations does Zappos and its CEO, Tony Hsieh, provide? Explain your conclusions. As a leader Tony Hsieh implemented a work place for his employees that would be fun and energetic so that it was a great place to work. His employees could be happy and enthusiastic about getting up and coming to work. It created pride and camaraderie in the work place. By creating this environment for his employees he created a personality for the company that would flow through the company to its customers giving the company a 75 % return customer rating. He was also actively and personally involved in quality efforts. Hsieh’s philosophy of “Chase the vision. The money and profits will come.” is a perfect example of why they were successful. He focused on employee and customer satisfaction first and the end result was the extremely successful company. Like the text says quality is a customer-oriented philosophy of management with important implications for virtually all aspects of organizational behavior.
