Team Approach Xerox Corporation comes to mind when I think of team work and empowerment and how it has changed the face of a company. Xerox was almost down and out 15 years ago when it realigned its management structure for the better. They changed the management style so that the employees were able to participate in the decision making process which was the key to Xerox Corporation’s comeback from the near fall out with Japanese competition. Empowered teams involve a particular configuration of work structures, practices and processes. Companies organize workflow around key business processes and often create teams to carry out those processes. The emphasis of this system is on a horizontal organization with strong customer orientation. Therefore, its basic premise is to create "an internal environment that supports customer needs and expectations" (Varma, Beatty, & Schneier, 1999) Since Xerox has implemented policies of employee empowerment, they have posted impressive results.
