Discussion (WK1)
Question 1:
When is the mean the best measure of central tendency? When is the median the best measure
of central tendency? Explain.
Mean is the best measure of central tendency when we have raw data or frequency data with closed end classes.
Moreover, mean is appropriate measure if the data doesn’t have huge deviation or is symmetrical in distribution.
Median is the best measure of central tendency in case of frequency data with open end classes. It is also
appropriate to be used in case of data with huge deviation.

Questions 2:
A researcher has determined that the distribution of annual salaries of NBA players is bellshaped and

do you think that introducing Michael Jordan’s last annual salary of
more than $30 million would skew this distribution? Explain why or why not. What would be the best
measure of central tendency for this distribution? Explain
