2 Introduction Leadership is defined by authors Kinicki and Kreitner as a social influence process in which the leader seeks the voluntary participation of subordinates in an effort to reach organizational goals. A strong leadership should empower its employees to maximize their abilities, both as individuals and as group members, in order for them to maximize their potential for reaching organizational, as well as personal, goals. Dependent upon which leadership style is utilized; employee empowerment may come with little resistance or can be more challenging for management to infuse. Leadership Style In the leadership positions I have been in, and based on the different leadership styles presented by Kinicki and Kreitner (2009), I could be labeled a transactional leader with some transformational techniques intertwined. Looking back, I feel that had I stayed with the company, I would have eventually promoted into a higher position and thus given more opportunity to lead employees with more transformational behaviors. I was a shift manager in a restaurant of which I had been an employee of since high school. When the company decided to open a second location, I was invited to transfer to the new location, help in the opening process, train new employees and finally, manage a shift of eight crew members that I would be working with on a permanent basis.
