Humanities Notes: January 13, 2011 *Polytheism- many gods Henotheism- many gods with a ruling god. Monotheism- one god (egypt, persia, judea) Pantheism- all gods. A spirit thats every where. Not in human form. Matriarchy- Mother focused/ based. -cyclical: coexistence. 1.)Theres light AND dark. 2.)For there to be good there has to be evil. 3.)If theres a women, there has to be a man. 4.) all creation is a result of sex. The ultimate cooperation. Patriarchy- advocates battle between good and evil; only one survives. -dualistic: light vs dark. Men vs. women. *all creation is a miracle. bc--> bce [before common era] ad--> ce [common era] A.D. Stands for anno Domini [year lord] –not after death! *Prehistory- study of history before the written word Culture -2pts: 1.) culture is any evidence of the manipulation of nature 2.) when writing came into use, it is the attempt of humanity to define there place in nature. Social more- unwritten rules of the group.
