Regulations are imposed against a product for 2 reasons: The product itself violates environmental norms in the regulating country, or because it is manufactured through a process that is environmentally objectionable. The most regional approach to environmental protection is n national environmental regulations of exports. Even if GATT constraints a nation from excluding imports created in environmental suspect ways, the nation can regulate its exports.
