1. Who are acculturation agents? Give two examples. The acculturation agents are people that teach the ways of a culture. Some acculturation agents include church, family, friends, local businesses, public schools and government agencies. These acculturation agents can either be from the person’s culture of origin or from the culture of immigration. 2. Describe the processes involved when a person assimilates into a new host culture. Assimilation is a complex process in which an immigrant fully integrates himself or herself into a new country. New customs and attitudes are acquired through contact and communication. The transfer of customs is not simply a one-way process. Each group of immigrants contributes some of its own cultural traits to its new society. Assimilation usually involves a gradual change and takes place in varying degrees; full assimilation occurs when new members of a society become indistinguishable from older members. 6.
