MEMORANDUM To: Beryl Pittman From: Jennifer Hinds Date: September 2, 2007 Subj: Medical School Assessment Following the completion of my undergraduate education, I plan on attending a medical school that matches my personal preferences while providing a quality education. However, finding the perfect medical school to attend is tedious due to the large variability offered by each school. Therefore, I researched three institutions based on criteria that are important to me, and I am reporting on the information that I collected. The purpose of this memorandum is to present my top three choices for medical school based on four categories of criterion that are important to me and compare and contrast the schools in order to select my perfect medical school. Methodology When conducting my medical school search, my primary source of information was the internet. My starting place was the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) website. This site gave each medical school’s admission’s requirements, and statistics of their students. After finding places where I qualified for admissions, I researched the individual institution’s websites. I received information packets in the mail from some of my top schools. Eventually, I selected three schools where I met their requirements to be accepted and seemed extra appealing. I decided on four criteria that were most important to me and ranked the criteria from the most important to the least important. Then, I used these criteria to compare my schools. I was able to rank my schools and decided on a top choice for medical school. Overview of Medical Schools The following medical schools are my three choices that I would consider attending after obtaining my degree in Biochemistry in May 2008: University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine- The University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine is a Pennsylvania state institution. Its associated hospitals have been named to the U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll as one of the “best of the best” hospitals in the United States for five consecutive years. It is ranked 15 th overall out of 6,003 schools in the United States. Not only is the school a quality patient care center, Pitt Medical School ranked in the Top 10 for annual NIH research funding. The school works closely with some of the top hospitals in the country and is surrounded by the city of Pittsburgh.
