Read sections 1.6 and 1.7 of the text then answer the following question (which is
the same as the first exercise problem in the text). Name several entities,
attributes, activities, events, and state variables for the following systems: (a)
cafeteria; (b) grocery store; (c) hospital emergency room; (d) automobile
assembly line.

A pair of fair dice are rolled one after the other. What is the probability that the
second die lands on a higher value than the first? Answer that question first using
basic probability. Then using a spreadsheet or manually using a pair of dice,
simulate 50 rolls of each die to estimate the probability.
3.
Suppose that there is a diabetes diagnostic test that is 95% accurate on those that
do have diabetes and 96% accurate on those who don’t. If 10% of the population
have diabetes, compute analytically the probability that a tested person has
diabetes, given that his or her test results indicate so. Using a spreadsheet
