If I were visiting and studying the Yanomamo, to better prepare myself for the possible culture shock, I would have done more research before I actually attempted to go to their village. Things aren’t always what they seem unless you really have some facts. I would have tried to visit the village periodically over the course of a year or so to familiarize myself with the people. That way when it came time for me to live amongst them, I was fully prepared. I cannot think of a time where I had a personal experience in which I experienced culture shock. Therefore, experiencing other peoples cultures isn’t shocking for me, it is knowledgeable. Understanding the major components of culture is important in a situation such as the one Napoleon Chagnon experienced because it prepares you for the initial shock. If you are prepared for what you know is out there, there is no reason to be shocked and risk the chance of offending someone and their culture....
