Adam Ohanesian 12/15/2010 My First Experience with Multiculturalism Growing up in Worcester I attended the public schools where the student body was compromised of primarily white Americans. As a child, my family did not travel outside of New England, except once we went to D.C when I was too small to remember. I attended college in Boston where I thought there would be more multicultural students, which there was, however I did not have any eye opening experiences with other cultures. Reflecting back on my life, I can say I was deprived of any multiculturalism until my wife and I went on our honeymoon a little over a year ago. She has traveled overseas numerous times and even studied for a college semester in London, the total opposite of me. That being said, my first multicultural experience was on our honeymoon when we went on a one week Mediterranean cruise consisting of Italy, Greece, and Croatia. We then spent a week in London. The cruise line we used was Costa Cruises which is an Italian based company, so we figured we would be the minority. Upon boarding the ship in Italy, there was a print out of the various countries the passengers were from and how many passengers from each country. Confirming our assumption, the United States was towards the bottom of
