Process Selection Process Selection/ System Design - Given capacity and appropriate process, we can start going into picking facilities, layout, and work design Process Strategy - Worried about capital intensity, operating costs, and process flexibility - If we can use process flexibility to the fullest, then we can exploit an opportunity in the future to help offset capital and ongoing costs Technologies Competitive Advantage - Process technology: economies of scale Process Selection - Volume, varieties and uncertainties are the main objectives Job Shop - A classic, historic, manufacturing set up in which an individual artisan using tools to produce to order. - Allows custom, flexible, high skill, high unit cost, low volume, and complex. o High unit cost because there is a low volume. - Complex to manage because each contract stands on its own. Hard to manage flow and cost in a flexible environment. Batch Process
