In this week’s readings, a self-assessment tool is displayed. In this tool, the authors not only explore the aspects of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual self but they also include the parameters of relationship and choices. How do these two dimensions affect a person’s ability to heal? As human beings we have the ability to make choices and have always found ourselves in relationships whether it is intimate, social or business. Our ability to maintain good relationships and make healthy choices affects our ability to heal. A person has to be able to give of themselves without fear of disapproval and without expecting anything in return. One must also maintain a healthy balance between work and family. Each individual have to assess their situation and make choices that will fit their lifestyles. According to Dossey and Keegan,” Each of us is responsible for assessing our own values and desires. We may make some mistakes along the way, but we also gain experience (p. 168) Healing is recognizing our feelings, attitudes, and emotions, which are not isolated, but are literally translated into body changes (Dossey & Keegan, p. 159). If a person is able to foster and maintain good relationships as well as make healthy choices then they will be able to identify poor attitudes, feelings or emotions which would be a hindrance to healing.
