Astronomy 16:40 - The application of physical principles to astronomical systems including planets,  stars, galaxies, and the universe as a whole.  - Where are we? How did we come to be here? (not who are we) - Venus is the hottest planet, mars is too cold for life cause of the greenhouse  effect - earth is a fuckin geologically active planet Extrasolar planets- there are not just planets in our solar system - Stars are grouped into galaxies Quasar- they look like stars but they’re actually systems powered by a black hole  bigger than the sun - Guiding principles Astronomy is a physical science Astronomy is a quantitative science - Physical principles gravity light heat pressure atoms  optics measurement Learning Goals Understand physical principles and their application to astronomical system Become familiar with science as away of knowing Learn about exciting developments in astronomy!
