Learning Objectives The purpose of this course is to provide an in-depth introduction to policing: its definition(s), role in society, development, and current issues. In this course, students will be expected to: Define commonly used terms in policing o Bi-weekly quizzes and exams will measure this objective. Explain major theoretical concepts in policing o Bi-weekly quizzes and exams will measure this objective. Explain the various reform movements that have influenced modern policing o Bi-weekly quizzes and exams will measure this objective. Explain the current problems facing modern policing o Bi-weekly quizzes and exams will measure this objective. Use your knowledge of policing concepts to analyze situations frequently encountered by police officers. o Weekly homework assignments will measure this objective. Student Responsibilities Homework Assignments You will be required to complete six (6) homework assignments during the semester. The assignments are designed to help you gain a better understanding of the difficult situations facing police officers and administrators. These assignments also assist you in developing problem-solving skills that are so valuable in many disciplines, not just policing. They are not intended to be lengthy in nature. But, one-sentence answers will not be sufficient. The best course is to answer the question, then ask yourself, “Why?” Include that information and you should have a complete answer. Follow the format in the handout “Class Assignments” which is available on Blackboard under "Course
