Halal – kosher Haram- un-kosher From the Quran: Pig is the only haram animal Can’t eat it if it was killed inappropriately or in a harmful manner Torah Leviticus chapter 15 all about physical cleanliness (“voodoo stuff”) Chapter 11 – what animals are kosher Any food that is kosher is also halal (kosher for Muslims) but not the other way around. Food: Un-kosher Torah Any mammal that does not have cloven hooves or chew cud Things that live in the water, but do not have scales and fins Birds of prey (eagles/vultures) Bugs: only grasshoppers/locus’s are ok No elephants, snakes, mice You must drain the blood of an animal to make it kosher If a dead animal touches your food, or clay pot, then your food is now un-kosher, and you must break said clay pot (but not if it is a more valuable material like brass, glass, bronze etc.) Both You can’t eat animals sacrificed, killed in an improper way, or sacrificed toward a pagan god. You can not eat blood
