SC/MATH 2271 3.0
Differential Equations for Scientists and Engineers
Winter 2010
Study Guide for Midterm 2
The second midterm exam will cover lecture material from January 22
up to and including February 12, as well as the following sections from the
text: 2.5, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 and 6.1. See the web page for a list of
suggested exercises from the text. Although the material covered in the first
part of the course will not be tested directly, it inevitably comes into play
within the context of later sections. Particular topics that may appear on
the test include the following.
•
Finding a substitution that transforms a given equation into one which
is separable or linear (Section 2.5 in the text). You should be able
to recognize which equations this applies to, and to come up with the
appropriate transformation.
