In Socrates essay Lysis,, he claims that it is impossible for those who do wrong and those who suffer from it to be friends. If evil people were friends than they would eventually to something wrong to the other causing them to be enemies. This means that the relationship of frienemies cannot exist as a friendship. According to Socrates if a human being intentionally does harm to another human, a friendship will not be formed between the two. This harm can be anything that will detriment the other person. In today’s society this can be anything from talking behind someone’s back or making fun of a person. According to Socrates the bad can’t befriend the bad or the good. In a frienemy relationship, one of the persons in the relationship has to be bad. Whether they’re naturally a bad soul or they’re doing a bad deed, it’s not feasible for this relationship to be considered a friendship. “Potter is angry with potter, poet with poet, and beggar with beggar”.
