The crude sexuality of the tale marks it as a Fabliau. The husband sees his wife have sex in a tree after receiving his sight again. She claims to have “struggled” with a man so that her husband would be recovered, but that’s a lie cause there was no struggle; the husband says he sees the man penetrate her. Fabliau -Exemplum, homily -Romance -Fellable line 1293: some people say (in regards to the clerical antifeminist treatises)it is false. Theophrastus arranges a premise for why you should not keep a wife. Because 1. If you want someone to keep your goods, a servant would do much better and not want to spend your money. 2. If you get sick, a true knave or servant would do much better in meeting your needs. So what does the merchant feel about marriage? He doesn’t like it
