Lecture 17 21:39 Cartogram – (map) it blows things out of proportion.  Coal mining is a powerful industry. In order to strip a mountain and drill it for coal,  you have to deposit the removed soil and matter somewhere else. This is  featured in an article as 2 people do not want the soil dumped by their home.  Mountain top removal: the process of removing excess rock and soil from top of  moiuntain, then deposited in low valley, then you dig deeper for drilling purposes,  then you smooth everything over and plant grass and nice things.  People don’t like it, but “it’s a way of getting coal. Good coal!” Projections of coal production are very high and very low: Metric tons of coal                        Years 1900-2200 Chart showing the location of coal fields which mauy be strip mined in the  future and coal fields where some strip mining has already occurred is shown.
