2 Mid-semester exam times 6-9pm Wednesday, 21 April 2009 6.00 : arrival time, the latest 6.15 : by this time everyone should be in their seat 6.20 : you now have 10 minutes to read the exam paper but without taking notes 6.30 : you now have 2 hours to complete the exam 8.15 : no one is allowed to leave the room after this time 8.30 : stop writing 8.30 : no one leaves the room until we have counted the papers and make sure that all is in order Failure to comply with any of these strict USyd rules , will result in a penalised exam paper Mid-semester exam place Wallace Theatre Stream 2 Stream 1

3 Mid-semester exam format Part A ( 30 marks ): 30 MCQ each with 5 possible answers Part B ( 20 marks ): complete an exercise (not MCQ) Given then 2 hours exam time, you should allocate to each mark no more than 2.4 minutes 20 MCQ are of theoretical nature and 10 require calculations. The exercise needs extensive calculations too so makes sure to bring a calculator Some questions are very easy, but others are tricky and there is no order in the way they appear Start by answering those that you feel confident that you know and then return to complete the rest Answer all questions even by guessing. There is no negative marking You will be given 2 documents 1. An exam instruction sheet containing the MCQ, the exercises and space to complete the exercises Immediately write your name and student id This is also your scrapbook for taking notes You cannot take this with you as it will contain the answers to the completed exercises 2. One MCQ answer sheet that can be electronically marked Immediately write your name and student id Use only a pencil to mark the correct answer , and use the pencil eraser to correct it
