Notice that Mrs. Uzick has procedures in place to ensure that she gives every
student the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and share their thoughts. She
numbers students and then calls on even or odd numbers. This also reinforces the
math concept of even/odd that 3rd graders are still learning. Why is this important?
Mirror reading helps to maintain student engagement, learn to read with
inflection and feeling, and helps with fluency. Reflect on the merits of the
"mirror reading" strategy Mrs. Uzick is demonstrating. Do you see this
as an effective strategy?
Not only is Mrs. Uzick asking students to work at the analysis level of Blooms to answer
her question, but then she asks a follow up question that continues to challenge the
students to dig deeper. Why is this important?
