Extra Credit Extra credit is available. Students may earn up to 2.5 points toward their final grades by turning in 5 article summaries. Each of these summaries is worth a maximum of 0.5 points. Name: _________________________________ UF ID# ________________________________ # ________ of ________ (total # of extra credits you plan to turn in) Instructions - Find an article in your favorite supermarket check-out line tabloid (mainstream newspapers and magazines may have something useful), which addresses issues discussed in class. Examples include "weird" anthropological stories, monsters, bizarre archaeology, space aliens, etc. Just because something is in a tabloid does not mean it is pertinent. - Cut out or photocopy the entire article. Web and internet sources will not be accepted! - Critique the article's claims based on techniques of critical thinking discussed in class.

Unformatted text preview: Do not simply say the author is stupid - examine the evidence presented (hint: FiLCHeRS).- The paper must be typed, not handwritten, and be 300-500 words long. Use the font Arial, 12 point. Use 1" margins on all sides (the default margin for MS Word is 1.25" for left and right, be sure to change this), and double-space your text. No credit will be given to papers that are less than 300 words! No credit will be given to handwritten papers!- Staple your critique and the article to a copy of this cover sheet.- Fill in your name, UF ID, and number of extra credits (e.g. 3 out of 5). Make sure this information is legible! If I can't read it, I can't give you credit for it. Deadline Extra credit may be turned in to your TA at any point during the semester.
