Unformatted text preview: 1 Solar Utilization Solar Heating Systems 2 Solar Utilization Solar Heating Systems 3 Solar Utilization Solar Heating Systems Before we get into the specifics of modeling the solar heating systems, we need to develop some additional tools: • heating load calculations • air side analyses including duct design and fan selection 4 EML 4600 LECTURE 5 Heating Load Calculations Trane Trace Calculation Options: UATD: The conduction heat loss is calculated with the equation: Heat Loss = U-Value × Area × (Winter Design Temperature - Room Heating Design Temperature.) At the user's option, internal loads may be scheduled on, although it is not recommended for design calculations. The room load effect is assumed to be instantaneous for both internal and external values of heat gain. No credit is allowed for solar heat gain. CEC-DOE2: This room load method duplicates the “Precalculated Weighting Factors” in the DOE2.1c energy analysis program, and is based on the original ASHRAE weighting factors for light, medium, and heavy construction. 5 EML 4600 LECTURE 5 Heating Load Calculations Other Load Calculation Methods: Carrier HAP Hourly Energy Use Analysis BLAST (Building Loads Analysis and System Thermodynamics) Heat Balance Method Radiant Time Series 6 Solar Utilization When do we need heating for a building? • When the building is residential in nature....
