Unformatted text preview: 1Biology 100 (02) - Human Biology Spring 2010 LONG PAPER TOPIC : Choose ONE of the following topics: The effects of soy products on the risk of developing cancer The effects of dietary fat on the risk of developing cancer The effects of selenium on the risk of developing cancer The effects of dietary fibers on the risk of developing cancer WRITING THE PAPER : Gather general information on cancer and on your specific topic. For your specific topic, find some experimental evidence or studies which support what its effects (positive or negative) on the development of cancer are. In addition to the two readings already used for your first paper (on how cancer develops), you should use information from at least three other current, credible sources. You can get information from journals, magazines, newspapers, online sources, etc. Use critical thinking skills to assess the scientific reliability of your sources, being especially cautious with online sources! Write a paper (3-4 pages) on the topic, in which you address the following: 1. Describe cancer and how it develops: What is cancer? What is a tumor?
