Alabama Department of Public Health The Alabama Department of Public Health is the primary state health agency for the entire state of Alabama. The agency provides health services, regulates and oversees any issue relating to the health of the residents of Alabama. Notably, the agency is the head of many divisions that cover a variety of health issues, including Disease Prevention and Control, Health Care Access, Family Health, and Emergency Preparedness. According to the organizational structure, the headquarters for ADPH is located in Montgomery, Alabama. ADPH managed by the State Health Officer, Scott Harris, MD, MPH who oversees and supervises employees and agency activities. ADPH is overseen by the State Board of Health who oversees the State Committee of Public Health. The State Health Officer heads the Public Health Administrative Officer, Children's Health Insurance, Facilities Management and Technical Services, Financial Service, and Health Statistics, Information Technology. additionally, the SHO also leads the Centralized Billing Unit, Chief Medical Officer, District Medical Officers and Clinical Laboratories, Medical Officer for Disease Control and Prevention who oversees Communicable Diseases such as Infectious Diseases and Outbreaks, and Tuberculosis Control. The Medical Officer for Family Health Services, who oversees Family Health Services such as Cancer Prevention and control, Prenatal Health, and Women, Infants, and Children(WIC) is also under the SHO. additionally, SHO leads the Medical Director of Health Provider Standards, Home and Community Services, HIV Prevention and Care, General Counsel, Compliance, Chief of Staff, Emergency Medical Services, and Environmental Services. Prevention and Promotion Support, Program Integrity, Radiation Control, Human Resources, Employee Relations, Field Operations, Local Health Services, Electronic Health Record, Telehealth, Governmental Affairs and Clinical Management and Practice which includes Nursing, Social Work, and Clerical are also under the SHO. (alabamapublichealth.gov) The mission of the Alabama Department of Public Health is "to promote, protect, and improve Alabama's health." The vision is "Healthy People. Healthy Communities. Healthy Alabama." The core values are "Excellence – We believe in providing the highest quality services to our clients.
