The news media expect all public officials to be scrupulously honest, efficient, and public minded. Responsible capitalism: business people should not seek unreasonable profits and they should not exploit workers or customers Small-Town Pastoralism: small towns are superior; quiet places of good lives. Quiet places are overlooked as a place where news happens. Cities have urban problems. Individualism: The rugged individualist is interesting, ultimately compelling. A good person. Self-made people are admired Moderatism: beware the fringe, be it left or right. Moderation is valued. Order: Political order is valued, Lack of order is news, but restoring order is the value.
