To foster independent and critical thinking skills. To understand the relevance of science to daily life. Required equipment: 1. Text:  Laboratory Activities for Human Biology, 4 th  Ed. Lynne Dowdy and Shanna Yoneaka, © 2008 2. Bound lab notebook containing graph paper 3. Calculator  Grading: Notebook: 100 pts (33%) Quizzes: 80 pts (27%) Symposium presentation 40 pts (13%) Final Exam              50 pts (17%) Participation/Effort                                                           30 pts                              (10%)     Total : 300 pts Attendance Policy: The ability to make-up missed labs is very limited, especially in the summer, so regular attendance in this lab  section is essential. In order to make-up a missed lab, you will have to attend a another lab section in the same week as  the lab that you missed, and you must submit verification of your attendance from the substitute instructor. The penalty  for absences is as follows: # of absences Penalty       1-2 Deduction from participation/effort 3 Deduction from participation/effort and -10% of total points 4 Deduction from participation/effort and -20% of total points 5 Automatic failing grade 6 Automatic failing grade and a very upset instructor  Required lab fee:  $15.00 per student           There is a lab fee for this course, required to help defray the cost of safety glasses and other materials. You may
