Unformatted text preview: Roshan Shah q Zuliang Shen \KO CHEMIZ’IZ / 14 April 2010 \CD 1 1. Discussion Questions . . The oxidation reaction for terrapinium is the following reafiion. The potential is negative because the standard reduction potential is sitive. Since we’re looking for the oxidation .' .‘I ‘ ' (‘4' 1 luauuuu, me my: 1:! inppeu. .— To”) TQA‘ 4th. ff: __ \mv It is possible to study this oxidation by using back titration method and reagents used in this experiment. The reaction does proceed ecause the E is positive, and also because the iodine oxidizes the terrapinium. This is b ause the potential for iodine is greater than that of terrapinium, so iodine oxidizes terrapinium. The presence of dissolved oxygen in the solution we interfere with the reactioh. The potential for making water is greater than that of iod' , and so it oxidizes terrapi'nium instead. As a result, there will less terrapinium avail Ie to oxidized, and so the final result would be too small. There would not be enough terrap 'um for iodine to oxidize, and consequently, the tmal concentration or terrapuuum won a be too small. Displaeing oxygen with nitrogen gas would eliminate it from the solutio . Another method ti) eliminate oxygen is to boil the water. ’LE '* 1-3— P) 731‘ E": ,9?3\/ ’07. t ’1! -> “MO r2": URN ...

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
