Studio projects emphasize the development of visual ideas and include the study of letter forms (typography), basic design techniques and graphic design principles. The use of the computer is introduced along with graphic design software. This technology is combined with more traditional (hands-on) studio experience for the initial stages of design and conceptual development. Studio and computer lab work are integral to this course. 7.Prerequisites/Corequisites Art 150 prerequisite, must be taken before 8.Placement Level List the minimum math and English placement level necessary for this course. Rationale To keep current and adjust courses appropriately in relation to new curriculum requirements and changes in the Art 150 course contents. Specifically, students have been coming into Art 150 with greater basic computer skills, i.e. saving, transferring files, using media etc that we have adjusted the course to cover more elementary design concepts such as figure/ground relationships previously only covered in Art 125. We believe in having added the Art 125 prerequisite several years ago we have made the course too select for our program as well as having recognition that many of the concepts we want the students to have been exposed to before Art 151 are now being covered adequately in Art 150. B. Student Learning Outcomes Explain what students will know or be able to do upon successful completion of this course or what knowledge, skills and attitudes students will develop. Student learning outcomes should be observable and assessable. In some cases, it is advisable to further explain each outcome with more specific objectives.
