20:42 coA. Weber’s Biography 1864 Born Prussia, South Germany 1869 moved to Berlin (German Capital)  father: Lutheran, lawyer, politician  mother: French Huguenot émigré, Calvinist, devoutly religious  1882 Law student at U. of Heidelberg 1884-91 undergrad and grad student at university of Berlin  Weber “fought with the ghost of Marx” Earned degrees in law, economic history, history 1892-97 Academic jobs at Berlin and Frieburg 1897-1913 after breakdown, withdrew from public life  1904  Protestant Ethic and Spirit of Capitalism  developed in sociology 1910 founded German sociological assoc.  1914-1918 WW1 in Europe 1918 returned to academia: Vienna and Munich 1919 publish  Economy and Society  1920 died of pneumonia on brink of second academic career  B. Theoretical Influence of Karl Marx  Weber disagrees with Marx about: Values in social research Being politically involved is not appropriate for someone doing social
