Reciprocal altruism (RA)-  a sort of time delayed mutualism,  an exchange takes place in which it seems that the beneficiary  gains and the initiator loses, but in reality the favor is returned at  a later date  Moralistic aggression-  protective mechanism to keep you from  being cheated, sense of fairness and justice  (Gratitude  Sympathy)  Conditions for RA to evolve(below) Cheater detection-  RA’s must be able to recognize each other  and detect cheats who receive the benefit of altruism but give  nothing back to turn, codes of membership for many human  groups, such are the right accent and the right clothes, and the  initiation rituals and signals of secret societies, could serve this  function  “Live and let live” and trench warfare in ww1-  if both sides  defected and attacked, although both suffered losses, troops on  both sides would regard this as preferable to their side alone  loosing troops  territorial playback experiments Vampire bats-  found that vampire bats, on returning to their  roost, often regurgitate blood into the mouths of roost mates,  such bats live in stable groups of related and unrelated  individuals
