ENGRI 1101 Engineering Applications of OR Fall ’09 Homework 11 Game Theory and Duality Due date: 4:00pm on Friday, December 4, 2009 in the ENGRI 1101 box at the west end of the corridor on the second floor of Rhodes Hall, where it connects to Upson. Reading assignment: Handouts on game theory and on duality. Make sure to put your name, netid, and section on the first page and staple the problems in order. 1. (25) [from Chvatal] Consider the following game. Each player hides one or two francs and tries to guess (aloud, simultaneously) how many francs the other player has hidden. Then both players reveal what they have hidden. If only one player has made the correct guess, then this player wins from the other player an amount of money equal to the total amount that has been hidden (between the two players); in all of the other cases, the result is a draw and no money changes hands. (a) (5) List all (pure) strategies for each player.
