It was silent science fiction film in 1927 in Germany- Fritz Lang was influenced from NYC and German cities (dehumanized standardization)- It was set in 2026 and portrays a futuristic urban dystopia - Themes man and technology, and brains and hands- Dystopia- a negative vision of a false reality o Others were like Plan Volsin by Le Corbusier o Bauhaus by Walter Gropius A struggle with the environment, both human and material Plato- Allegory of the Cave- Imagine human beings living in an underground, cakelike dwelling, with an entrance a long way up, which is both open to the light and as wide as the cave itself. Theyve been there since childhood, fixed in the same place, with their necks and legs chained, able to see only in front of them, because their bonds prevent them from turning their heads around. Light is provided by a fire burning far above and behind them. Also behind them, but on higher ground, there is a path stretching burning far above and behind them....
