In this particular article “
Rehab Rooted in Science” by Gabrielle Glaser, argues that
many counselors that treat alcohol and drug abuse patients only need a high school diploma,
looking at the statistics from 2012. Many of these patients are told that they must “ adhere to a
higher power” in order to “escape substance abuse”. Glaser stresses the fact that this type of
treatment given to patients is “ignoring recent research on this subject” By this he means that
over the spam of five years from 2004-2009 there has been many medications created that can
help this type of addiction or “illness”. Overtime, he expresses the frustration that with the
traditional rehabilitation procedures have failed and that as a society we have not taken
advantage of the medicinal side for patients dealing with addiction.
Not only that does the
National Institute for Alcohol and Abuse, has taken inconsideration that also “
taxpayers had paid
for them,” he said of the studies, “but nobody was paying attention.” Glaser is definitely looking
at this situation from all angles. From the most scientific way , to medicinal view, and what we
as a society are putting our money into. On the other hand, Glaser integrates the fact that Obama
