Tips for Doing Research Step 1. Go the SFSU library web page: Search for books Step 1. Check book catalog: on left hand side, click Library Catalog Step 2: type in the key word for your topic and find books that are related to your  research topic. Request the books and pick them up at the library. Remember that it will  take one to two days before books are ready for pick-up. Search for Journal articles  Step 1: go to Step 2: Select Articles and Databases  Step 3: Under header “Most Useful Databases” select JSTOR Step 4: Once you’re in the JSTOR database, do a key word search.
