ENGLISH 209 (5) Spring 2010 Instructor:  Priya Abeywickrama Email:  [email protected] Office Hours:  T/Th 11:00-12:00; 3:30-5:00 Office:  Hum 269 Phone:  338-3095   Mailbox:   HUM 125 TAs:  Minghao (Rainie) Zhang and Alicia Frangos COURSE DESCRIPTION:   English 209 is a course in English composition.  Course work includes learning how to develop, focus and organize your ideas in  writing, and regular reading assignments.  Over the semester you will write and  revise several compositions, and you will regularly do informal writing  assignments that will help prepare you for these compositions.  Although some  class time may be spent on grammar, you are responsible for basic competence  in English.  If you are enrolled in English 212, you will be expected to apply what  you learn to your writing in English 209.  If you are not in English 212, you will be  expected to work independently on your grammar.   COURSE TEXTBOOK:  Guidelines  (3 rd  edition), Ruth Spack. Cambridge University Press  2007 ATTENDANCE :  Attendance will be taken at every class meeting.  If you are   absent more than five classes, you will receive No Credit in the course .  Being  late two times is equivalent to one absence.  Leaving the room during class time
