Writing Assignment 2 For this assignment, you can choose one of the vignettes to write about. You should read the vignette and discuss the developmental stage that the child is in, the biological and environmental influences that could be impacting him/her at this time in their lives, and any other variables that could be affecting them at this stage. Think about where they should be developmentally with motor skills, verbal/communication skills, cognitive abilities, and social skills/peer interactions. Are there any risks for them at this time? What can be done to reduce those risks, etc… The point of this assignment is to integrate a variety of information learned in this class up to this point in to explaining or predicting risk or expected/predicted outcomes. You can use various theories to support the information you provide. Make sure that the information comes from this class. If you include information from other sources, make sure you cite them; however, it is not required to use other sources.

Unformatted text preview: Vignette 1: Elisia is an 8-year- old girl attending a regular education classroom in a low-income school district. Her mother has smoked throughout Elisias life and during pregnancy. She does not currently use other substances. Elisias mother, who is a single mom, is involved with her daughters life and spends adequate time with her. Vignette 2: Juan is a 14-year-old male in a regular education classroom. His grades are in the C range and he does not show interest in furthering his education. He has been caught trying to run away from home and engaging in other risky behaviors. His parents are rather permissive and allow him to do what he wants without discussing the consequences of his behaviors. Your paper should be at least 2 complete pages, no longer than 3 pages, times-new-roman, 12 point font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins. Points will be deducted if these criteria are not met.
