Elias Tsihlis Ms. Honigsberg PHI 1000C 02/03/2011 “Why study Philosophy today” Philosophy known as “ 1 lovers of wisdom,” is theories of addressing certain problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument. Is philosophy a study of science, or a study of religion? Socrates states to 2 Meno, “ And the moral is of philosophy, that a man ought to live always in perfect holiness,” Cottingham John Western Philosopy pg 4 which strongly makes me believe Socrates that philosophy can be based on religion. It is often argued that these topics are both incorporated into philosophy. But there is so much more to it, philosophy does not fall into a study of either of the two, it is a study that requires significant amount of logic and critical thinking. A great outlook on philosophy today teaches us not what to think, but how to think. It’s the study of meaning, of the principles underlying conduct, thought and knowledge. Through the study of philosophy, we learn to analyze and express things clearly. One goal of philosophy is to gain the ability to formulate questions and follow arguments in the essence of education.
