Leverette 1 Lacey Leverette Ms. Helana Brigman English 1001, Section 108 11 June 2010 Journal #1 on Podcasting Podcasts are either audio or video files that we can often subscribe to from the Internet or from iTunes. There are many different kinds of podcasts that we discussed in class. The first and only video podcast that we watched was an episode “Escape” from This American Life . The other two podcasts were audio podcasts: “How do you clean up an oil spill?” from the podcast Stuff You Should Know and the audio “Can men and women really be friends?” from the podcast Stuff Mom Never Told You . Within these three podcasts are numerous similarities and differences. “Escape” from This American Life has the genre of a personal narrative- biographical story that holds no secrets and usually teaches a moral lesson. Similar to the genre of This American Life is “Can men and women really be friends?” from the podcast Stuff Mom Never Told You ; it is based on personal issues, but more in depth on women and gender issues in the format of a conversation.

Unformatted text preview: The most important genre in my opinion belongs to “How do you clean up an oil spill?” from the podcast Stuff You Should Know because it is an audio on the current events and informative news that are going on in the world that serves as an advantage to the listeners. The most interesting podcast that we interacted with in my opinion was Stuff Mom Never Told You because the topics were very interesting and the audience had no idea when the speakers were citing their sources because they stayed on topic and did their research which made it obvious that they knew what they were talking about. Using a Podcast is very useful and interesting in my point of view because they are so truthful and they touch base on many topics that a lot of people do not necessary talk about often for whatever reason. When using a podcast, it is very easy to get drawn into them because they are mostly conversational and are on topics that we can relate to. Leverette 2...
