Lacey Leverette Dr. Ross Louis Fundamentals of Public Speaking 28 July 2011 To Meat or Not To Meat General purpose statement : To persuade my audience. Specific purpose statement : To persuade my audience to eat less meat. I. Introduction : A. So last Christmas I was making my plate of food at my Granny’s house. 1. Luckily (sarcastic), my family is really close and outspoken so when they noticed my plate lacked meat they threw a fit. 2. They started yelling at me and making fun of me because they claimed that I was trying to “save the animals” and etc. and they made animal noises. 3. Don’t you wish you had my family? B. I believe that Americans should reduce the amount of meat that they intake because yes, meat has its benefits, but too much meat can be putting your health in danger. C. I am credible on this topic because I began by reducing my intake of meat attempting to become a healthier person and then gradually became a vegetarian because of the satisfying results. D. Thesis statement: Eating less meat not only reduces our health risks, but it also reduces the earth’s endangerment. II.
